Quick Start Guide

The Quick Start Guide contains the basic steps to help you get started fast.


Introduction
Dynamic Choropleth Maps software is an interactive data visualization tool developed to visualize multivariate environmental-health-demographic relationships in data using interactive, dynamic choropleth maps.(see also About DC Maps Software).



For Optimal Performance:
From your browser menu bar:
    select View
    select Full Screen.

System Requirements
The following are required to fully view the map and to use the slider controls:
1024x768 minimum screen resolution
Java Virtual Machine 1.1 or later.
A Java enabled browser.

Screen Resolution (Check)
To check or change your screen resolution:
1. Right-click on the Windows desktop.
2. Select Properties.
3. Select Settings.
4. Change the Screen Resolution.

Java Virtual Machine (Check)
From your browser menu bar:
1. Select Tools.
2. Select Internet Options.
3. Select Advanced.
4. Check Microsoft VM.

Map Data
1. From the Data Selection Box, click a     topic to expand it.
2. Click on the dataset to select it.
3. Click one of the Map Titles to assign the     data.
4. Repeat steps 1-3 to map other data     components (see also Map Features).

Enable Data Filters
1. Check the checkbox next to the South     or East slider (see also Map Features).

Investigate Data Interaction (s)
1. To investigate data interactions, move     the desired South or East slider (s)     to observe the data interaction.
2. To select Map percentile ranges for the      Primary Data Component, move the      North slider or slider end-points to        alter the percentile ranges.

Identify Data Values
1. To identify Data Values, roll the      mouse over the county. The data      values pop-up is displayed (see also      Map Features).

View Map History
1. To view map history, click on the left or     right History Arrows (see also Map     Features).

Get More Information (Online Reports)
1. To drill down for more information on a     county, right click the mouse. The
    online reports pop-up menu is
    displayed.
2. Scroll to the desired report and click     its title. The report is displayed in a         separate window.

 

 


 

 

Transform Data
1. To transform data, right click the map.     The online reports pop-up menu is       displayed.
2. Scroll to select Analyzer. The Analyzer     is displayed.
3. Fill in the fields to define a data     transformation.
4. Click OK. The transformation is     calculated and a new map, based on     your calculations is displayed.

Floating Legend
1. Check the Legend check box to
    up a Floating Legend.
2. Drag the Legend to relocate it on the
    screen.
