Introduction
This is a high performance Microsoft .NET Data Engine for querying the Toxic Release Inventory. The application uses the Firebird open source embedded DB engine within the Microsoft .NET Framework to query TRI data ported to firebird relational databases. The current build uses the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 platform and runs natively in Windows XP/Vista. It will run virtually in Mac OS X using a hypervisor such as VMware Fusion. A Mono build to run natively in Linux may be forthcoming.
More detail on application features can be found in the Overview.
The TRI data released in 2006 for years 1988-2006 have been compiled into Firebird relational databases and made available for download with the data engine.
Firebird is a relational database offering many ANSI SQL standard features that runs on Linux, Windows, and a variety of Unix platforms. Firebird offers excellent concurrency, high performance, and powerful language support for stored procedures and triggers. It has been used in production systems, under a variety of names, since 1981. The Firebird Project is a commercially independent project of C and C++ programmers, technical advisors and supporters developing and enhancing a multi-platform relational database management system based on the source code released by Inprise Corp (now known as Borland Software Corp) on 25 July, 2000.
